OUTREACH

science rendezvous kingston

Picture
Science Rendezvous Kingston is a FREE annual science festival for Southeastern Ontario families hosted by Queen's University. Each year, our team of Plant Doctors runs a large booth with hands-on activities for all ages to explore plant biology. We give away seed kits to germinate at home, and thousands of garden-ready seedlings provided by the Queen's University Phytotron.

We love to engage with our local community!

CLASS VISITS & FIELD TRIPS

We run half-day field trips on plant biology and/or cell biology, depending on your needs. Students learn in an undergraduate teaching lab in the Biology Department at Queen's. Students prepare slides using plant tissue and learn how to use a light microscope. Best suited for students in grade 6, 7, or 8; available between April and June.

We can facilitate tours of the beautiful rooftop greenhouse in the Queen's University Phytotron facility at any time.

We can come to your school for short visits focused on plant biology. Students can prepare seeds for germination and watch them grow for a few weeks in your classroom. We can also bring a stereomicroscope for students to look at leaves, flowers, or bugs up close! Best suited for students in grade 1, 2, or 3; available anytime but spring is recommended.

Please note that all of our class visits and field trips are subject to the availability of our lab members. At this time, we can only accommodate a few each year. If you are a teacher in the Kingston area, please reach out.
